Ron English Selected as EMU Head Football Coach

Ron English, the defensive coordinator for the University of Louisville football team in 2008, has been named head football coach at Eastern Michigan University. EMU Director of Athletics Dr. Derrick Gragg made the announcement today (Dec. 22) in a press conference held in the atrium of the Convocation Center.

The Eastern Michigan University football team was honored Saturday, Dec. 13, at the 46th annual football banquet held in the Grand Ballroom of the EMU Student Center. The recipients of the 2008 individual awards were announced by the 2008 EMU football coaching staff with senior Tyler Jones, redshirt junior Andy Schmitt and redshirt freshman defensive end Brad Ohrman singled out for the top honors.

Three members of the Eastern Michigan University football team have earned All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2008 season in voting by the league’s head coaches. Senior middle linebacker Daniel Holtzclaw, senior offensive tackle T.J. Lang and junior wide receiver Jacory Stone were all named second-team All-MAC after turning in outstanding seasons in 2008.

EMU football players Andy Schmitt and Patrick Treppa were singled out as Mid-American Conference West Division Players of the Week for the final week of the 2008 season. Schmitt was named the West Division Offensive Player of the Week and Treppa was named the West Division Special Teams Player of the Week after the Eagles upset defending MAC champion Central Michigan, 56-52, Nov. 28, at home in Rynearson Stadium.

Following a record-setting performance versus Central Michigan, Nov. 28, EMU junior quarterback Andy Schmitt has been selected the Walter Camp Football Foundation's National Offensive Player of the Week. Schmitt set a NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision record with 58 completions, as the Eagles upset the Chippewas, 56-52, at Rynearson Stadium.
